Our mission is, where possible, to rehabilitate, train and prepare our rescue horses to become the well-loved family members they are meant to be. If a horse can be saved and live without pain, we are willing to do what it takes to make that happen. We also have horses on site that are sanctuary horses and are permanent residents due to their special needs and the high maintenance that they require.
Wild at Heart Horse Rescue is a family-based organization. Leslie and Mike have each been involved with horses since childhood and when they had children, involved them with horses as well. Since saving their first horse from a Craigslist ad in 2016, they have not looked back. They are passionate about the humane care of horses. They realized the critical need for a horse rescue in their area and have devoted their time, home and financial resources to helping these horses. We have over 30 years of experience in the care and wellbeing of horses. We have taken horses that are in grave condition from starvation and neglect and, with the aid and support of our veterinarian and our dedicated volunteers, nursed these animals back to health and given them a new life with new adoptive families. Through our years of experience in organizations such as United States Pony Club, 4H, FFA and many years owning, maintaining, and training horses through natural horsemanship we believe we have become advocates not only for horses in need but also for the owners who find themselves in need of assistance.
